Meet trip leader Mark DeDea (forsythnature@aol.com or 339-1277) at the refuge parking lot east of the main entrance on Hoagerburg Rd. (Ulster County Rte. 18) at 3:30 pm. SUMMARY:Golden Eagle/Winter Raptor Survey
DESCRIPTION:Contact Tom Salo (salothomas@gmail.com) if you are interested in this important citizen science project. Lots of other wonderful winter bird possibilities while conducting the survey in our beautiful neighboring county to the west. Tom also has hopes of someone confident in identification to be investigating the more remote parts of Ulster County as well if that sounds more appealing.

SUMMARY:JBNHS GENERAL MEETING
DESCRIPTION:Meet Ulster County’s very own\, Corey Finger as he discusses his new publication on birding our great state! \nAmerican Birding Association Field Guide to Birds of New York (American Birding Association State Field) Paperback – March 1\, 2016 – by Corey Finger (Author)\, Brian E. Small (Photographer). \nThe Empire State is one of the best places for birding in North America—from the Adirondack Mountains in the north; the Finger Lakes in the west; the Hudson Valley in the east; and the marshes\, bays\, and beaches of the south\, New York provides habitats for an amazing array of birds. As a flyover state for many migrating species\, backyard birders can see hundreds of species per year as they head north in the spring and south for the winter. The American Birding Association Field Guide to Birds of New York includes more than 300 species birders are most likely to see in the state. Illustrated with hundreds of crisp\, color photographs\, it includes descriptions of each bird along with tips of when and where to see them\, written by an expert New York birder. It is the perfect companion for anyone interested in the amazing diversity and beauty of the birds of New York. Meet and mingle with new and old JBNHS friends for refreshments and a brief business meeting.

SUMMARY:NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL BANDING WITH DR. GLENN PROUDFOOT

This wonderful outing will include one sweep of the nets and a chance to see how processing works and should take about an hour to an hour and a half. Please contact me as soon as possible if interested as reservation will be on a first come\, first serve basis. This is a wonderful way for members to learn more about (and support) the research done right here in Ulster County. The banding station is located at Bonticou Lodge\, 299 Mountain Rest Road.
